Planning the Restoration
Locals were familiar with the pioneer cemetery, and some had been mowing the grass in respect of those buried, however, the cemetery was in a state of advanced decline. Many of the stones were in very poor shape - broken, falling over, or sinking into the earth.
A small group was formed - Anne Kells, Pat Malone and Helen MacDonald - all with ties to the cemetery, who helped take the dream of restoring the cemetery to reality. This small group, organized a Restoration Committee and secured funding from the Federal Government, which enabled the first restoration since the 1970's to take place.
Below is a photo gallery of some initial work in evaluating the work to be done, and planning the first phase of restoration. Use your LEFT and RIGHT arrows to navigate through the photos.
