Since the formation of the St. Margaret of Scotland Pioneer Cemetery Committee in 2007 by Anne Kells, Pat Malone, and Helen MacDonald, the Committee supported and endorsed this website and its work to preserve and share the history of the cemetery and the people connected with it.
That relationship continued until 2025. Following changes in the Committee's leadership, the Committee chose a different direction and no longer supports this website. The reasons for that change have not been clearly communicated to the website administrator.
The possibility of developing a new and substantially improved website has also been discussed with the Committee. Creating that site would require an estimated 500 hours or more of additional work, including the preservation and migration of existing material, further research, organization of historical and genealogical information, and development of the new website. At this time, the Cemetery Committee has chosen not to support the development of a new website.
Over nearly two decades, thousands of hours have already been devoted to researching, developing, maintaining, and expanding this website. The withdrawal of support for the existing site, together with the decision not to support the proposed new site, and the manner in which these decisions were handled, has therefore been deeply disappointing.
It remains my hope that, in the future, this website and the St. Margaret of Scotland Pioneer Cemetery Committee can once again work together to preserve and tell the stories of our ancestors. Before that can happen, however, I believe there needs to be an acknowledgment of what occurred, respect for the thousands of hours of work contributed over the past two decades, and a sincere effort toward reconciliation.
